WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?
Yogic Nidra, is also known as 'Yogic Sleep'. It is an ancient guided meditation technique and is a form of hypnagogia. During the practice the body rests while the mind remains aware and in state between wakefulness and sleep. It provides deep relaxation and restoration on a physical and mental level.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR YOGA NIDRA?
Before we begin, you will find a position that is comfortable for you to remain still throughout. Traditionally, Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down in savasana, with support under the head or knees. You can use cushions, bolsters or folded blankets. When we are lying still, the body temperature drops, so we cover the body with a light weight blanket or similar. The eyes are closed and some people like to use an eye pillow or similar.
Once you are familiar with the practice, you may like to sit in an upright position.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PRACTICE?
Remaining still, in a comfortable position, you are verbally guided to mentally follow a series of stages or steps. No movements are required and the instructions are simple and easy to follow.
WHAT IS A SANKALPA?
During Yoga Nidra you are invited to make your 'Sankalpa'. This is a heartfelt desire, resolve or intention that comes from within and it is private to you. When the mind is resting during Yoga Nidra, we are more able to accept and absorb our resolve. A Sankapla can be a tool for change and with regular practice can create positive changes in our lives.
It can take time for your Sankalpa to form, if it doesn't come to you straight away do not worry it will!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF YOGA NIDRA?
WHAT DO THE ONLINE SESSIONS INCLUDE?
We will join together via the platform Zoom. When you book your space, I will email you a link. I will begin with a welcome sit, followed by a pranayama (breath work) practice. This will settle the nervous system and prepare you for Yoga Nidra. You are welcome to leave Zoom at the sound of the meditation bowl, and settle down for sleep.
I look forward to sharing this transformative practice with you.
